Burleigh is the home of handcrafted ceramics, shaped by a distinctive British tradition of design and craftsmanship since 1851. Each and every piece of Burleigh pottery has been made in our home since 1889: the Middleport Pottery factory, located in the heart of the Staffordshire Potteries in England. We combine English clays, a skilled team of craftspeople, and unique decorating methods, creating ceramics unlike any other.
Founded in 1851, Burleigh was born from the coming together of two brilliant pottery minds: Frederick Rathbone Burgess and William Leigh. Over the years, the company has honed the skills required to create pottery collections that are not just beautiful, but also practical - designed for modern-day living.
Underglaze tissue transfer printing was a technique that revolutionised the way the world made pottery, and today this process is unique to Burleigh. It requires a great deal of skill, with a team of transferrers, skilled decorators who carefully apply each pattern by hand. We create ceramics that are durable and rich in depth of colour and, importantly, each and every piece is unique - made by the hands of generations of talented potters.
Our collections are drawn from a combination of archival shapes and patterns, but Burleigh is not just about bringing the past to life. With a design team constantly looking for new ways to interpret our heritage, create new shapes where needed, and introduce fresh colourways and surface designs, what we create today remains just as relevant as it was 175 years ago.
Burleigh is a British ceramics house where design and craftsmanship come together.

The Iconic Teapot

Burleigh has been creating teapots since 1851 and remains proud of the functionality and design behind each piece. From the carefully sponged spout to the internal grid designed to slow the flow of liquid, our teapots reflect decades of evolving thought and attention to detail. Every element has been considered to ensure the weight and balance feel just right in the hand.
Tea drinking is one of Britain’s greatest traditions, and at Burleigh we believe it should be elevated and celebrated with the very best pottery.
