New for Autumn/Winter 2016, Dove Grey in 'Calico' and 'Felicity' is a contemporary range of handcrafted pieces. Featuring the elegant ‘Calico’, ‘Felicity’, and ‘Pantry’ patterns, Dove Grey has been re-imagined in a soft grey colour.
Beautiful as a standalone collection with classic Burleigh shapes including plates, bowls and mugs, Dove Grey can also be mixed and matched with complementary ranges such as Blue Calico and Black Willow. Produced by hand at Middleport Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, our Dove Grey pattern has been designed to update your table setting, whilst maintaining the sophistication and timelessness of Burleigh. The finished colour gives a ‘dappled’ effect, highlighting the handmade status of Dove Grey. The Burleigh designer behind the collection, Sarah Heaton says: “By introducing a lighter colour palette, I wanted to re-imagine some of our traditional patterns and inspire a new generation to fall in love with Burleigh. Dove Grey is the colour of the moment, transforming some of our beautiful patterns into a story for now”.
Using our age-old technique of tissue transfer printing, Dove Grey has been made by our skilled craftsmen ensuring the quality of each and every piece. Using a hand-engraved copper roller, the tissue paper was first printed with the Dove Grey design. Next, it was delicately cut-out by a transferrer and applied to the Burleigh ware. Following this, our skilled team have then rubbed the pattern onto the surface with a brush and specialist soap and sent it to be fired to strengthen and harden the design.
