These Spiced Christmas Star Biscuits are the perfect winter warming biscuit; perfectly paired with your afternoon tea of choice....or even to leave out for Santa!
To create these at home, you will need the following ingredients:
- 100g unsalted butter - at room temperature
- 75g icing sugar (sieved)
- 100g ground nuts
- 1 tsp mixed spice
- ½ tsp cocoa powder (sieved)
- 2 small drops of vanilla essence
- 150g plain flour + a little more for dusting
- Splash of milk
Method:
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (fan 160°C)
- Cream together the butter and icing sugar using an electric whisk or stand mixer
- Incorporate the ground nuts, mixed spice, cocoa powder into the mixture and add vanilla essence if using.
- Add the flour to the bowl and mix until a dough is formed. You may need to add a splash of milk to bring together.
- Lightly dust a clean surface with flour and roll out the biscuit dough until approximately 7mm thick
- Cut the dough into your shape of choice and place onto a baking sheet
- Roll the remaining piecess of dough into a ball, roll out and cut into shapes. Repeat this process until all dough has been cut into biscuits.
- Bake the biscuits in the middle of the oven for 15-18 minutes or until slightly golden
- Check to see if they're ready by gently touching one with your finger. If there is no indent they are done. If this leaves a mark they need a little longer
- Remove the biscuits from the oven when they are ready and gently place on a wire rack to cool
- Once cool the biscuits can be dusted with icing sugar or decorated as desired
