Collection: Ink Blue Palisade

An ode to Victorian drawings, Ink Blue Palisade details are adapted from a Burleigh archive pattern designed by Christopher Dresser. An eminent Victorian designer and professor of botany, his great innovation was in representing the beauty of microscopic plant cell structures in his work. With every piece being made by hand in Stoke-on-Trent, this ornate range forms part of Collection One, along with Pollen and Palisade. Perfect for parties.

Dresser’s great innovation was in representing the beauty and symmetry of microscopic plant cell structures in his designs. The Palisade pattern was acquired by Burleigh in times past as a copper plate engraving and has remained in our archive ever since. When it was rediscovered, the fine details were adapted into a new border pattern for tableware and drinking vessels like coffee cans and espresso cups.

Alongside Pollen and Hibiscus, the Ink Blue Palisade range forms part of Collection One — our first ever dedicated collection. Designed to be layered, these Palisade plates and pasta bowls can be styled as they are, or mixed and matched with the rest of our Collection One patterns to create a table setting that combines the very best of nature's beauty.

All Burleigh collections are handcrafted in our famous Middleport Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, England. We use the same tissue transfer method to create our Ink Blue Palisade design as we have done for generations.
